Breakfast in bed

Monday, 20 August 2012

I've written before about my love of a good hotel breakfast. It's one of my favourite things about staying in a hotel, and I think it can truly make or break a place.

I'm also a big fan being just a tiny bit lazy, so when I have to get up too early for a breakfast, I'm a little put off. 10am is a good cut off time, I think. 9am is just a smidgen too early, considering that it's bad form to turn up a few minutes before then. And all the good pastries are gone.

So I was a little disheartened to find out that breakfast at The Buttery in Oxford, where I am now, finishes at 9am. I was a little grumpy this morning, after another bad night's sleep (nothing to do with the hotel, I might add). The thought of getting up to shower, dress and greet the world at 8.30am didn't really appeal to me.

But then I made a fantastic discovery. The Buttery deliver breakfast to your room for a paltry £2. And I'm telling you, it was the best £2 I ever spent. The lovely receptionist brought me a tray (and I felt a wee bit bad about her climbing three flights of stairs with it, let me tell you)

I stayed in my jammies and ate my wonderful breakfast in bed. I soon realised what a little shit I was being by moaning about my first world problem. I mean, really.

  1. This makes me SO MAD. Mad like the Hulk. It's a holiday - breakfast should be up to noontime. I never get up for these hotel breakfasts anymore. I possibly do if they serve up to 11am, but no earlier. This is a massive scam by those penny pinching hoteliers, designed to take advantage of super lazy people like me.

I do agree that this is a SERIOUS first world problem. Shall we start a petition?
