On the Case with meteorologist Bee Tucker

Wednesday 4 June 2014

I don't know about you, but there's nothing I like more than being really nosy. And being nosy about other people's holidays is just the business. That's why I've started a new section on the blog, On the Case, wherein I ask all kinds of people about all kinds of holidays. First up is meteorologist (don't call her a weathergirl) Bee Tucker.

Where is your ideal holiday spot? If you could magically transport yourself anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?

New York. I have been there a few times. It wouldn't strike you as the most relaxing destination, but I love the hustle and bustle and the fast-paced nature of the city. It has an atmosphere which I love. Although given our weather recently, the Caribbean would be a close second choice!

Is there a location you always go back to?

Again, New York. If I stay in the UK I tend to go to the New Forest for a weekend break, as its not too far to travel, and it has some beautiful scenery.

What kind of holidays did you take as a kid? Does one stand out in particular?

I was very lucky as a child, and got to travel a lot of places growing up. The one that stood out for me, apart from America, was the safari I went on when I was about 14. I have always loved animals, and it was an amazing experience to watch them in their own habitat. I am not a fan of zoos, so seeing them in the wild was amazing. It was very surreal.

Who do you prefer to go on holiday with?

I really should say my boyfriend... but ideally I would like to go away with him and my friends. Its nice to have a mix of people to go away with so you can do different things and not feel guilty! I love to spend time lying on the beach and swimming in the sea, whereas my boyfriend isn't a swimming fan and likes to be actively doing something all the time!

Any holiday disasters?

I have been lucky with flights being on time, and I've never lost luggage. Fingers crossed there wont be any significant disasters in the future!

You've just come back from India. How did you find the trip? Any highlights/lowlights?

I found it an amazing experience, even though it wasn't the most relaxing holiday. The colours and variety of people were amazing. The highlight for me was definitely my friend's wedding, which I was a bridesmaid for. I wore a sari and had my make up and some henna decoration done. The wedding was a two day event, and the groom (who was Australian) came in on an elephant!

What do you always pack?
Dry shampoo (I would rather spend more time on the beach than washing my hair). I always take my teddy bear too - its a home comfort that always comes with me.

And what can't you fly without?
A big glass of wine! I'm a very nervous flyer, so I normally have to have a big glass of wine at the airport. I used to take tablets to knock me out, but I have got better over the years. (A combination of being a meteorologist and having a pilot as a boyfriend helps!)
