Bologna in Pictures

Oh, Bologna. A town so pretty you just want to eat it all up. So you do - tagliatelle with rich Bolognese ragú, thin slices of pizza scattered with torn mozzarella, salty bread dipped into olive oil... and a chilled glass of sparkling wine. That'll do quite nicely.
There's more to the city than food (even though most of the Italian food you know and love comes from the Emilia Romagna region). It's one of those typically Italian cities which you can just amble around for hours.
What's unusual about Bologna is the everyday shops built into historically important buildings. Above is a book shop, inside an old tower building, and a beauty shop complete with ancient pillars. Hell, even the Sephora is in a historically important building.
You know how they always say to sit inside in towns like this, at the bar, to save money? Rather than sitting outside in the pretty piazza? Well, to hell with that. Who could resist a table out here?
Of course, you won't go far without finding a pasta shop, deli or little hole in the wall restaurant. Whenever you find a fishmongers, poke your nose in - many cook up their wares at the back of the shop for just a few Euro. They also have a few bottles of wine so you can have a drink while you tuck in. The perfect place for an aperitif.
Speaking of holes in the walls... this window cut into an otherwise mundane bridge gives you a picture perfect view of the Canale delle Moline. It's done the framing for you and everything.
So there you have it. When you're waiting for your next meal, or walking off the last one, you won't be stumped for a strolling dreamland.
