A reluctant ode to Michael O'Leary

Tuesday 4 December 2012
This is the only photo I have for a Ryanair themed post.
But I do like to remind people of the time we WON.

A little while ago, I came across this piece in the Telegraph, compiling some of the more memorable quotes from the king of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary.

As I wrote back in September, O'Leary has always had a rather outspoken manner when it comes to customer service. He has no qualms about calling a woman a "stupid idiot" for not printing her boarding pass. He thinks "the most influential person in Europe in the last 20 to 30 years has been Margaret Thatcher." He claims that "the best thing you can do with environmentalists is shoot them."

In short, he's a Bollocks.

There are many reasons to dislike him. If you were to take what he says seriously, then he is an incredibly offensive man. And don't get me started on the half naked calendar girls.

But if you've ever worked in customer service, or indeed any job where you have to deal with the public, a small part of you will rejoice that someone, finally, is calling that idiot an idiot.

You will have dreamt, at some point, of telling someone just to f**k off. And O'Leary has no problem doing so...

"You're not getting a refund so **** off. We don't want to hear your sob stories. What part of 'no refund' don't you understand?"
He's unapologetic in his ignorance. He doesn't care if you like him. And if you forget to print your boarding card? You can be damn sure you're paying €60. You stupid idiot.
